Ran in to another bear in Yosemite.
I just got back from a few days of camping in Yosemite and while driving through the valley on Saturday I came upon a large group of people pulled off the road. There were all staring into the forest and taking pictures. As the car got closer I saw what they were all looking at, it was a juvenile black bear. I quickly snapped off a few pictures from the car. Here's a few of the better black bear pictures. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This is twice now I've had an encounter with a black bear in Yosemite. The last time I came face to face with one, this time it was from the safety of my own car. You wouldn't believe all of the spectators who were lining up with their small children. Some of them within 25 feet of the bear and definitely putting themselves and their children, not to mention the bear in danger.

Encountering kangaroos doesn't sound too bad, but from what I've heard you Austarlians have some pretty dangerous critters too. The Taipan and the Funnelweb spider sound pretty scary to me

Yeah Darwin's theory of Natural Selection makes a lot of sense in this instance. Those individuals best adapted to their environment are more likely to survive and reproduce. It's amazing how much these people equate a wild bear that can kill them with watching TV.
It's too bad it's most likely the bear who will suffer by too much human interaction, causing it to continue to get too close, and eventually become a problem and be put down.

Yeah we've got the equivalent of the funnel web spider, the black widow out here in California. I used to do underground video surveillance and saw plenty of them.
Not familiar with white pointers, what are those, A type of deadly jellyfish?

Oh yeah, the massive predator the great white shark. We just had a white shark attack this week in San Diego that killed a retired veterinarian. He was swimming behind a small group of triathletes and was thrown out of the water and bit across both legs.
Grew up around surfers and talking about great whites, but never heard them referred to as white pointers. Must be an Aussie thing. ![]() Don't know what's up with the shark attacks lately as they are usually quite rare. However, in the last week alone there have been a few in Florida, one in Mexico and one in San Diego. Makes me wonder if it's tied at all to the unusual weather patterns going on. Haha, on a side note I just noticed that ads for gay bear dating are showing up on this page from Adsense. Talk about targeted advertising taking a turn in the wrong direction.
