Default Boycott Absolute Vodka

Ready to boycott Absolute Vodka. I definitely will never buy their crappy vodka again. Here's the main reason, besides how bad it tastes.

Get a load of this Absolut B.S advertising from the Absolut company:

Does this fill you with Absolut disgust? Well, being born and raised in California
it does for me. I think it's appalling that a company would stoop so low as to
promote this kind of advertising. So I'm joining the ban on Absolute vodka.

I'm not sure what the executives who thought up this boneheaded advertising
campaign think now. I do know that this story is going viral with many
Americans "Absolutely" outraged and promising to never purchase their product
again.

There's an old saying that no publicity is bad publicity.Do you think this kind of
controversial advertising will increase revenue for the company or hurt it in the
long run?

Default Ban Absolut Vodka

I emailed the company about my desire to ban Absolut vodka based on their disrespectful advertising campaign and here is their response:

Dear Matt,

We understand your concerns and we are sorry that you feel the way you feel. This was not our intention, as we try to explain in our statement. Though you may not agree, I hope you understand.

The In An Absolut World advertising campaign invites consumers to visualize a world that appeals to them -- one they feel may be more idealized or one that may be a bit "fantastic." As such, the campaign will elicit varying opinions and points of view. We have a variety of executions running in countries worldwide, and each is germane to that country and that population.

This particular ad, which ran in Mexico, was based upon historical perspectives and was created with a Mexican sensibility. In no way was this meant to offend or disparage, nor does it advocate an altering of borders, nor does it lend support to any anti-American sentiment, nor does it reflect immigration issues. Instead, it hearkens to a time which the population of Mexico may feel was more ideal.

As a global company, we recognize that people in different parts of the world may lend different perspectives or interpret our ads in a different way than was intended in that market. Obviously, this ad was run in Mexico, and not the US -- that ad might have been very different.

Best regards,

In my opinion this is a very ineffective and weak attempt at an apology. Any time someone says "I'm sorry the way you feel," does not mean they are sorry at all, only sorry that I have the opinion I do. Well, many Americans happen to share this opinion and will not be purchasing vodka from Absolut.

I know personally, I won't be buying their product again.

Default Absolut Vodka Ban

Wow, when I first heard of the Absolut vodka ban a few days ago I couldn't believe it. Now this is all over the news, first it ran on Fox then on Lou Dobb's CNN. Seems people in America don't like foriegn countries trying to reshape their borders, go figure.

I guess the sale of the company couldn't come at a better time and to a French company

According to popular sentiment about reconquista in Mexico, it looks like 58% of the population of Mexico think that the areas of old Mexico, now California, Oregon, Colorado etc should be taken back. Not such a fringe movement after all. I hope more people in the U.S (Our leaders, George Bush, John McCain, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton) start to take some notice before we are invaded from within.

Here's an interesting video by Lou Dobbs on the Absolut vodka controversy:
