There are many free backlink tools available that will help you determine how your website ranks for incoming links. It's no secret that if you want to rank well in the search engines it's mandatory to use proper link building techniques. Using the tools below you can get a comprehensive look at your websites incoming backlinks.

One of the best ways to determine ways to improve the backlink strength of your own site is to take a look a few competitor websites. Run a Google search for a keyword or keyword phrase you want to rank for. Then enter the URL of the competitors site that is in the top spot for your keyword into one of the tools below.

Once you've got the info on where their backlinks are coming from, you can try contacting the same sites for links or seek out similar sites for a link exchange. Remember to only include quality sites as link partners and be careful that the site is actually indexed and not banned for some reason or another.

You'll get information like the quantity of incoming links, the URL or the linking site, anchor text, Google pagerank, the number of outbound links on the page and if the site is using the nofollow tag.

Sites that use the nofollow tag include a lot of Wordpress blogs, StumbleUpon, Myspace and Blogger blogs, just to name a few. These sites do not pass on Google page rank, however they can be a good source of traffic.

They can compare your site to the competition and give you a good idea who is linking to your sites and those of your competitors. This is a good popularity tool for lining your site up angainst others to see how you rank for incoming link strength.
