Default How to Write To Your Opt-in List

Honestly, this is what requires the most discipline from me... for the longest time, I thought I didn't want my visitors being distracted from the BUY button. (which equals instant money in my pocket) I figured if they put in their email address in a box, they wouldn't stay, and wouldn't buy.

Anyway, I know having the list is much better. Now the goal is to get the conversions higher.

Does anyone know how to write to your opt-in list?
Are there any tricks to writing the messages so that even more people will buy? Are there special wordings or phrasings I should use?

Is there a specific format I should use? I've been writing pretty long ones - about 800 words - but I've been wondering if I should make it shorter since people are pretty busy these days.

Also, what should the tone of my message be? Should the email be super personal like talking to a friend or more like a professor lecturing the class?

Thanks in advance for your help!!
